Sandustry Energy is produced through a multi-stage material chain, not directly from Gold or Water. Convert Seed to Wet Seed, grow a Flower, harvest Amethelis, dry it into Dry Amethelis, heat that into Florin gas, cool and condense Florin into liquid Florinol, then feed Florinol to a Florinol Battery. Build each stage as a separately testable module because the chain crosses solid, living, Wisp, gas, liquid, and Energy states; a route that works for one state may fail at the next.
What you need before you build
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Seed from the Residue recovery line | A valid Kinetic Press conversion produces Seed alongside Gold. |
| Water and a Planter Box | Seed must first become Wet Seed; the Planter Box then grows it into a Flower. |
| A controlled harvest area | Flowers release dense Gold and drifting Amethelis, which need different collection behavior. |
| Steam Dryer and thermal stages | Amethelis must be dried, then heated into Florin and cooled into Florinol. |
| Florinol Battery | The battery consumes liquid Florinol and makes the stored resource available as Energy. |
Step-by-step Sandustry setup
Produce and separate Seed
Burn Shaker Residue into Burnt Residue, then drop valid input at least 25 blocks onto a Kinetic Press. The successful press output includes one Gold and one Seed. Split the two below the machine so Water used for farming cannot flood the Gold collection route.
Success check: Seed reaches dry storage or a dedicated wetting chamber while Gold follows its own collection path.
Make Wet Seed at a measured contact point
Let one Seed touch one Water. The Water is absorbed and the result is one Wet Seed. Add Water after transporting the dry Seed, not directly below the Press, so an overflow cannot interfere with impact or mix with other output.
Success check: The input changes to Wet Seed without leaving a pool across the Press output.
Grow and harvest the Flower
Deliver Wet Seed to a Planter Box with open vertical growth space. When the Flower is ready, harvest it with a weapon or controlled Fire. Enclose the area because the head releases four Amethelis and one Gold, and the light Amethelis behaves as a drifting Wisp rather than an ordinary falling solid.
Success check: Gold settles into its collection route and Amethelis remains contained for drying.
Dry Amethelis before applying production heat
Feed captured Amethelis through a Steam Dryer to make Dry Amethelis. Do not treat this as the same operation as the later heating stage. The Wisp input needs containment, while the dry output can be routed as a different material with a clear handoff between modules.
Success check: The Dryer output is identified as Dry Amethelis and no raw petals drift around the next stage.
Create and contain Florin gas
Apply sufficient heat to Dry Amethelis to produce Florin. Build a gas-tight chamber before starting this stage and remove unintended openings to neighboring processes. Gas behavior makes an open material chute unsuitable for storing the result.
Success check: Florin remains inside the intended chamber and reaches the cooling zone instead of dispersing.
Condense Florin and supply the Battery
Cool Florin until it condenses into liquid Florinol. Collect the liquid in a sealed basin or a dedicated supported-fluid network, then deliver it to a Florinol Battery. Keep this Pipe route separate from Water or other liquids to avoid commingled outputs.
Success check: Florinol reaches the Battery and the factory gains usable Energy rather than merely storing intermediate material.
Symptoms, causes, and the next check
Change one variable at a time. Start at the input and follow the material state through the line instead of rebuilding every machine at once.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Dry Seed will not grow | The Planter Box requires Wet Seed, not Seed. | Move the Water contact before the Planter Box and confirm the material changes state. |
| The plant area produces no usable petals | Amethelis may have drifted out of an open harvest chamber. | Enclose the sides and collect the Wisp output separately from Gold. |
| The Dryer line stalls | Raw Amethelis is not reaching the Steam Dryer or the output handoff is obstructed. | Inspect containment, input contact, and clear space on the output side before adding more petals. |
| Florin disappears | The gas-generation chamber has an open route or shares space with another process. | Seal the chamber and retest with a small amount before heating a full batch. |
| The Battery gets no Florinol | Florin has not condensed, the liquid path is blocked, or its Pipe network is mixed. | Verify the state change first, then inspect the dedicated Florinol transport route and Battery contact. |
What not to do
- Do not build the entire chain as one open shaft; every state needs different containment and transport.
- Do not wet Seed directly under the Kinetic Press.
- Do not use uncontrolled Fire in a shared crop area; Flowers and nearby burnable material can ignite.
- Do not connect Florinol transport to the Water network.
- Do not publish or plan around unverified throughput ratios during Early Access; confirm current machine behavior in game.
Sources, confidence, and Early Access limits
This guide separates confirmed mechanics from layout recommendations. The mechanics below were checked against official Sandustry Wiki pages; layout advice is a practical way to satisfy those rules, not a claim that only one factory design works.
