Residue is the guaranteed output of Shaker processing and the first major by-product a Sandustry factory must manage. Leaving it on the Shaker eventually blocks new Wet Sand. Burning it can recover value, but the conversion is lossy rather than a fixed one-for-one recipe.

Production flow
This flow identifies the material's immediate inputs and outputs. Follow the linked guides below for the surrounding chain instead of treating this compact route as a complete throughput calculator.
How Residue works
When Fire reaches Residue, each pixel either becomes Burnt Residue or is destroyed. Fire spreads through touching Residue, so a pile can continue burning once ignited. The official material page describes the average result as approximately four Residue for one Burnt Residue, not a guaranteed batch recipe.
How to use Residue in a factory
Separate Residue from the Gold output immediately. Move it to a contained burn chamber using gravity, belts, or launchers, and keep the flame away from Water, plants, and other burnable material. Later automation can use controlled Lava or a Pyro Dispenser instead of repeated manual ignition.
Common Residue problems
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Most Residue vanishes | The burn conversion has a chance to consume each pixel without output. |
| The burn will not sustain | The pile may be too sparse for Fire to spread between touching pixels. |
| The Gold line backs up | Residue is not leaving the top of the Shaker quickly enough. |
